Computer and Teaching

Advancing technology has opened many doors in education. It has been a long time since televisions and VCRs began being used in teaching. After something has been taught conventionally, teaching the topic visually adds a new level of understanding for the student. The next step in this direction would add interactivity to teaching. Not only would the student be able to see what is involved, but he or she would be able to learn from hands on experience. Using computers can be a very effective way of accomplishing this.

Computers can also be used to design and access supplemental references. These can be effectively used before a lab to increase familiarity with certain lab procedures. This has shown to be true in a experiment involving first-year chemistry students on an undergraduate level. In this study students with a weak background in chemistry (based on high school experience and grades) were compared to students with medium and strong backgrounds. The comparison involved a titration lab. Certain steps in the laboratory experiment deemed essential in acquiring accurate results were selected. The students were videotaped and analyzed individually. The number of these steps performed by all the students were noted.

Before the laboratory experiment the students with the weak background used a Computer-Aided Learning (CAL) tutorial. This tutorial explained the basic concepts of the titration and also showed the steps of the experiment visually using video. It then asked a series of questions about concepts in the experiment. Based on the results of these questions it was inferred that previous experience with titration was not a factor in the final score.

After using the CAL tutorial three quarters of the students said they felt that the tutorial had produced a significant increase in their understanding of titration. Some of the students were second-year students. They said that they felt the tutorial was an excellent review. In the end, the tutorial was found to be effective in teaching these laboratory skills to inexperienced users.
Computers have begun to show up in classrooms recently, as they have become cheaper, more powerful, and easier to use. There have been many software titles written as well for the purpose of education and for use in the classroom. Though no standards have been set as yet.

Color Wheel

See This video

A color wheel is disk-shaped and divided equally into 12 sections, each displaying a different color according to its "pigment" values.
All colors arise from the three primary colors: red, blue and yellow. These colors are primary because you cannot make them by mixing other colors together. They are represented on the color wheel at equidistant positions, forming a triangle.

Mixing equal values of any two primary colors together creates the secondary colors of violet, orange and green. Since violet is a combination of equal amounts of blue and red, it lies halfway between those two colors on the color wheel. Orange lies halfway between red and yellow, and green between yellow and blue. The secondary colors form another triangle.
To fill the last 6 spaces on the color wheel, the tertiary colors are represented. Adding equal amounts of one primary and one secondary color, or the colors to either side on the wheel, results in the tertiary colors between. Flanked by red and orange you will see red-orange, between orange and yellow, yellow-orange, followed by yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet.
A color wheel is extremely handy when putting together a color scheme, or series of colors that will complement each other to create an overall pleasing affect. Following are some basic color schemes:

Monochrome: A single color is used, varied in saturation and lightness for several different contrasting shades. Many "skins" for software use a monochromatic color scheme. One problem with this color scheme is that it is difficult to make anything stand out, and the lack of contrast can get monotonous.
Analogous : Here you use the color wheel to pick two colors that are side-by-side. One becomes the dominant color and the other is used to accent. The overall effect is much like the monochrome scheme but offers more hues. However, it still lacks contrast.
Complimentary : Using the color wheel, complementary colors are found opposite each other. This creates high contrast. Again one of the two colors should be dominant. This color scheme is harder to balance in a pleasing way than the aforementioned schemes.
Split complementary: Same as the previous color scheme, however you would also use the two colors either side of the secondary complementary color. This mutes some of the starkness created by the previous scheme.
Triadic : As the name implies this color scheme uses any three colors which form a triangle on the color wheel, equally spaced apart.
Tetradic (or double complementary) : In this case you pick a complimentary pair of colors (opposites), then a second pair to use in tandem. It's important to balance cool and warm colors for the right effect. For picking color schemes for things like quilting, starting at any point on the wheel and counting off three to five colors adjacent to one another makes for an interesting combination that provides variety and contrast, while avoiding the harshness of complementary colors. A color wheel is a handy tool for everyone from software programmers to interior decorators and hobbyists.

Posters Design

Posters are a very important marketing component. They can be seen as large advertising pieces focusing around one central theme with the opportunity to attract a large number of viewers. The purpose of a poster is to attract attention to your message and evoke an action. Designing a poster can be frustrating, often times we of our message. Before designing your poster, spend time planning ahead, laying out ideas, concepts, your goal, and know what your central message is.
Follow these simple design and layout tips to create an amazing full color printing poster.

Start by writing down everything you would like to have on your poster, keeping in mind who your target audience is.

Develop a central theme, concept, or purpose with precise information.

Emphasize the most important element. Draw attention to that component. Credible and motivating. After you draw them in, give them something they want to pursue that is realistic and sincere.

Have a specific text element that directs attention to make your message clear and interesting. Make that element in a different style, size, or color. Text size and font type are very important aspects when designing a poster. They will determine whether your audience will be able to read your poster with ease. If not, all your hard work was for nothing.Use a template. Custom poster templates with preset bleeds, trim area, and safe area are an easy way to ensure proper print ready formatting.

Eliminate any poster "noise". Poster "noise" happens when you add irrelevant or unnecessary information to your poster. Keep in mind you have less than 3 seconds to draw the attention of your audience to your poster; be exact and clear.

Don't forget the important information. Dates, time, location, phone numbers, address, or any other pertinent information.
Create attention grabbers! Seeing that you don't have a lot of time to get the attention of your audience you need to make a quick impact, such as a catching and interesting statement, photographs, graphics, colors, layout, etc.
Take advantage of full color poster printing. 4-color poster printing is affordable and the quality is higher then quick prints or digital printing! Make your poster professional and memorable with vibrant full color offset printing.
o Spell-check and get someone else to proof-read your poster. When you have finished your final poster design on paper, you can start designing it on computer. Be sure to check this list off before poster printing.

Titles and subheadings should be short yet meaningful.

Content should be concise and to the point.
